Community Service
We believe it's important to be good corporate citizens and help to make our community a better place to live. Employees have the opportunity to volunteer in two company-sponsored initiatives:
Science Volunteers
In 1997 we began a volunteer program to interest students in science, using the slogan "If you love science, pass it on." Since that time company volunteers have engaged more than 15,000 students in math and science activities. Through this program, employees have tutored inner city school district students, led lab tours, spoken at career days, given science magic shows and "What in the World?" presentations, sponsored a "Chemistry Olympics," and hosted on-site shadowing experiences.
Community Heroes

Since 2000, our senior management has challenged each department in the company to perform one volunteer activity a year as a team to help our community. So far our Community Heroes project has involved hundreds of employees who have chosen to clean streams, beautify a day-care center, donate computers and provide computer training for staff and children at a transitional housing organization, hold bake sales to raise money for people in crisis situations, sponsor a holiday party for children in a children's home, collect children's books for distribution in the community, wash cars to make money for Hospice, and collect household goods for several organizations.

In a company-wide Community Heroes project in 2006, volunteers financed and built two Habitat for Humanity "Homes in a Box" for shipment to Gulf Coast hurricane victims.
