According
to Wes Neumann, vice president of pharmaceuticals and
business development, each of the two program options
fills a specific staffing need for clients. In one, scientific
staff members are dedicated to client projects within
the Lancaster facility, and in the other, technical staff
work on client projects at the client site. In both PSS
models, scientific staff are employed and managed by Lancaster
Laboratories. In Lancaster Labs on-site model, clients
contract for a given number of full-time employees who
work under Lancaster Labs roof, using Lancaster
Labs instrumentation, SOPs, reagents, and supplies.
For this model to be considered, the client must have
sufficient work to keep the employees working continuously
for a minimum of six months.
In the client-site
model, the company provides staff to perform analytical
testing at client facilities for a duration of at least
three years. In this option, employees work under the
clients SOPs, using client LIMS systems and client
instrumentation, but they are hired by Lancaster Labs
HR team and managed by a Lancaster Labs supervisor.
They are Lancaster Laboratories employees receiving a
full benefit package.
According
to Neumann, Professional Scientific Staffing shouldnt
be confused with temporary staffing programs. For
companies requiring on-site staffing for shorter time
periods, temporary staffing may be a better solution,
he says, but for companies with a need for long-term
staffing, PSS offers a number of benefits, not the least
of which is a more qualified and motivated staff.
Further,
there is no need to change staff as there is with a temporary
staffing option because there are no co-employment issues
with this program. This allows the client company to benefit
more fully from the training that must be invested in
each employee. In addition, the Lancaster Labs staff
can reach higher levels of productivity and expertise
because their term with the client company can have an
unlimited duration.
